That’s it, the decision has been reached, you are entrusting us with your dog… a difficult decision in view of the special bond between you. We
are therefore giving you a few tips to help him to enjoy this vacation
and the overcome your guilty feelings... First shock upon arrival : the barking welcome! Your friend may be a little upset by such a noisy activity! Don’t take too much notice. Soon he will be part of the fun and follow his pals ! Second shock: fencing all over. Necessary safeguards to protect your friend Rather concentrate on the inside of the pens, where the dogs can play and run in complete safety. Be convinced your dog is coming to us on HOLIDAY, tell him so, reassure him: I’ll come back and fetch you, but, above all make sure he understands that he comes to have fun: fun is here and pals are here too. We are convinced that he will adapt faster in boarding kennels, thanks to other dogs, than alone with strangers at whose home he will always be listening for the last noise behind the door. Here there, there will be a lot of things to see, to listen, to master… and will go home tired, without having time to feel lonely or bored. Don’t leave him his favourite toy or T-shirt ! each reminder of his home will bring back your absence. If he has none of his belongings, he will be interested in his surroundings much quicker. During his stay we’ll do our best to please both of you. To start with, we’ll try and find him a friend sharing his tastes. Here, he will be out in a pen daily for hours on end if the weather, his disposition and shape allow it. He will therefore be able to run, sleep or play as he likes. Meals, set up for competition dogs, are adapted to your dog. The food is rich in proteins and easily digested in order to try and compensate the risk of loss of weight ever present in a dog boarded with us. This type of food is also very good for dogs easily upset by a change of diet. It lessens risk of diarrhoea. However his homecoming (returning to his traditional food and delight to be back) may be provoke softer stools for the first few days. Why may your dog lose weight while staying with us ? above all for two reasons. First every change of environment is stressful; second when in kennels no dog will leave all the “works” to the others! As soon as one dog barks, all of them listen, get up and… join the fun ! All these fulltime activities will provoke a reaction in your dog upon his return home. Often the dog is very thirsty and we explain this by the fact that here, he rests less and barks more than at home and therefore is far more excited. As soon as he is back in his usual environment he realizes that all the barking has left him with quite a dry throat and he is tired sooner. Just plan a bowl of water available upon his return and let him rest; don’t worry, he’ll find his voice again !! Before each trip do control your dog’s vaccines: yearly inoculation against: distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, infection hepatitis. These vaccines can be injected in one or two shots. It is also important to ask your vet for en injection against kennel cough. This virus , although fairly contagious in all sorts of circumstances (walks, neighbours ’dog...etc) is unfortunately more likely to be caught in boarding kennels: dogs meeting ground if any! Luckily this disease is seldom serious mainly if dealt with rapidly. Don’t worry these vaccines against the most serious diseases are the most efficient. Vaccines against rabies are valid for two years in Switzerland. The cat… has a very different social life from the dog. Unlike the latter, he is not always attracted by other cats. Very often, Puss would rather opt for independence and a place of his own. He will only enjoy his vacations as he is able to protect his private space. We have therefore endeavoured to re-create an atmosphere fulfilling as much as possible each + everyone’s needs: corners , little corners, games, hiding places etc… in all the cat quarters! A fenced pen allows the to enjoy open air to roll in the grass, to stretch out in the sun or to mount guard in numerous shelters in order to watch birds… unfortunately unattainable !! It is quite probable that, upon his arrival here, your cat will go straight away into hiding to observe his dwelling in peace ! His territorial instinct is very developed and each cat meets the others according to his own rhythm. If, for some others, shyer, will take much longer to explore every corner. However, sooner or later, they will feel like playing and taking a nap as only they know how. If your cat has a very special foods habits, please let us know it upon your arrival (it is however possible that he will decide to eat food he will despise at home!). Your pussy-cat must feel absolutely at ease to decide to eat. This is totally in opposition to the dog’s behaviour regarding food, since a dog will always be seduced by food, after a few cuddles and a little stroll. Your cat is perfectly able to ignore us for the whole length of his stay with us! If he is happy with his quarters and his food, he can choose to look upon us with the utmost disdain… andd nonetheless he will play the fool all night long… Cat vaccines: yearly inoculation against: panleukopenia and Feline infections peritonis. Some vets advise to boost each one if the previous inoculation is older than ten months. It is the law for all cats living in the open to receive the feline leucomia vaccine. For those living exclusively indoors, it is only necessary to receive a recent test, approximately one month. Anti rabies vaccination is not compulsory but remains desirable for cats allowed in the open. xWe hope your four-legged friend will enjoy his stay with us and that you will be satisfied with his “digs”. If, in spite of all our attention, there is some trouble with him (he seems to be ill, he has got a wound which has not been mentioned to you, please call… and let us know, your satisfaction is so important for us. |
